Painting Antique Bankers Desk

September 23, 2013 DIY, Interiors, Paint

After some great searching I finally found the bankers desk of my choice. To read how I stalked my bankers desk click here.

First thing was to change out the hardware. It had original hardware that reminded me of grandma’s dresser. I had these current hardware already purchased from a estate sale. BUT, now that I have finally repainted the desk, I am not a fan of it and might search for something lighter.

Well here are the before shots with the updated hardware.

The re-styling process always begins with a fine-grit sanding. Remove any dust, dirt, and stain that will hinder the paint from adhering well to the piece.

Don’t forget to do the drawers and don’t be lazy, remove the hardware.

When you want furniture to look like your 6-year old didn’t paint it, you have a couple options with paint techniques. NEVER use a cheap brush. NEVER. Prime with a good coat of GOOD primer, I prefer Kilz. If you have the access to a paint gun or a good spray paint (NOT those you find at Home Depot). Then give it a go.
