Slipcover Furniture in the Living Room

July 8, 2015 Design Ideas, Home Tour, Interiors, My Home

So I went all out and did white slipcover furniture in the living room. I have a smaller space and I wanted it to feel light and airy. I also wanted it to feel relaxed. I am not a fan of living rooms that make you feel uncomfortable, and, not in the physical sense that the chairs are too stiff, but, more the fact that they protrude the, “I’m new and expensive so please don’t really sit in here” feel. You know, those living rooms that when you walk in with your glass of wine and your toddler to enjoy a gathering and it’s like BAM, “please be careful….”
NOW, don’t get me wrong, I have some upholstered pieces in my home, like my x-benches or a side chair, that make me cringe when I see my kid jump on it with his juice, BUT you don’t want your entire living space to be a shrine of heavy furnishings you can’t enjoy.
YES, yes, the first day we got the slipcovers my toddler wrote on it with a pink pen. Yes, I had a hissy-fit cause it was only 1 day old! and yes, I have gotten over it. I have since learned the pleasures of knowing they go in the wash! The slipcovers that is, not the toddler. Well, they go in the wash too.

Your room looks great! Have you washed your slip covers yet? If so, how did you do it and what were the results? Do you know if additional slip covers can be purchased specifically through Lee Industries?

hi Christine! yes! I have washed them. Just wash in gentle cycle, cold water. Then let them air dry some. When they are still damp you place them back on so you can stretch them out and decrease the wrinkles without ever ironing. Totally easy and even had a client that has literally washed them multiple times.
As for purchasing extra slipcovers from Lee industries, I am not aware if they do this, BUT I always get the extended warranty and it does allow me to change them out if for some reason the stain is not coming out, but that hasn't happened.

Im thinking about buying the Leanne sofa. Could you tell me if you washed or dry cleaned the slipcover and is it white or bright white? I'm trying to match it to the rest of my white furniture. Thanks!

Hi Lisa! Yes, I have washed it. It states to dry clean but I did not dry clean. just throw in cold water, delicate cycle and air dry. then when damp place it back on to stretch it out.
Great question about the color. It is NOT bright white. I have a slipcover chair from Ikea, in comparison, the ikea one is bright white while the Leanne sofa is just white. Hope that makes sense.

Hi there, I just saw at couch like this at Macy's and I really really want to get it. HOWEVER I have four kids 13, 11,5 and 3 and a dog. I am super NERVOUS about getting a white couch and my hubby will think i'm nuts. Is it easy to clean? thanks!

Hi there Brenda! Totally get your concern. I have 3 kids, 10 year old boy, 7 year old boy, and a toddler! It is so easy to clean, just remove, throw in wash, air dry. Totally worth investing in 🙂

For me, the living room is the most happening space in my home, because I spend most of time with my family and friends in this part of the home. We sit together, watch our favourite television programs, eat, drink and enjoy gossiping for hours. Thus, I have decorated my living room with the best collection of furniture that is comfortable and long lasting.

I purchased the Leanne Fabric Couches in white from Macy’s. Although they are comfortable, my covers have not held up well from washing. Any idea on where to order new covers?

Hi! I purchased almost 5 years ago and they have actually held up. I did do delicate wash with woolite and air dry. BUT, it seems like Macy’s stopped selling it almost after it was on the floor. I searched too a couple years ago to have extra in case and it was already off the floor. sorry!!
