How High to Hang Curtain Rods

August 8, 2013 Design Ideas, Interiors

Hanging and Re-hanging and re-hanging my curtain rods was the project of last week. Imagine me, one person, and many rods. Making sure they are balanced and at the appropriate heights. Not easy. Especially when it came to the window rods that measured over 180inches long. ugh. But, let my woes be your wins.

Found this pic online (site unknown) and laughed. We have all been there. Hanging our drapery rods the “old” way. I must admit, when we purchased our home my rods were exactly like this pictures’ but don’t. So today sharing with you How High to Hang Curtain Rods

How High to Hang Curtain Rods

I knew one day I was going to change out the drapery treatments so I didn’t invest my time in altering the height of the rods until I finally purchased new treatments. The downfall to extended the height of your rods is in the cost of your drapery. More fabric, higher price. But well worth the final look.

Moving the rods closer to the ceiling and wider so they fall on the outside of your framed window (“Do” illustration) adds height and depth to your room. Making the space seem grander. I highly suggest paying the difference and enjoying the feeling of option #2!!

Well, finally the dining room and almost the family room are complete. Window treatments and all. I did not want to purchase new hardware since the existing ones were great. All I needed were new window treatments. My actual pics will come soon.

Found this pic. at The Design File that shows how two rooms that are exactly the same change in height because of hanging the drapery higher and wider.

So go ahead. Spend an entire morning with a 6 ft ladder and rods bending over your shoulder as you try to move your rods higher and wider. No pain no gain.

Who knew that a small tweak with how the curtain rods are placed could create a drastic change on the entire look of a window? Thank you for taking the time to search for pictures. This is a great idea for those who want to revamp their homes on a budget. Cheers!
