One Room Challenge Spring 2016 // Week 1

April 7, 2016 Interiors, My Home

It is my FAVORITE time of year in the interior design blog world – Linda’s from Calling It Home, One Room Challenge.
Okay, so if you don’t know, twice a year Linda pulls together 20 of the top Interior Design Bloggers for a 6 week design challenge. Each blogger picks a room to renovate and has 6 weeks to complete the task. You might be thinking that 6 weeks is a long time, but in the design world, it is NOT. Trust me, 6 weeks is basically just the planning and decision process in our realities. To pull this off is a ONE BIG FEAT!
Anyhoo, I am participating as a “guest,” but it is every bloggers dream to be invited one day and this is a great way to see if it is doable.
As a guest participant I will post every Thursday my weekly updates with links to visit all the talented participants.
Okay, so lets get to the juice of my space renovation for the next 6 weeks.

One Room Challenge

I have 2 big space renovations coming up. One is our entrance/staircase/into second floor hallway and the other is our second floor bathroom.
Now, ideally I would like to challenge myself on completing the bathroom, but I just fear I can’t get it done. Literally haven’t even started a design concept for it. But I thought maybe I should give it a go. Well, not going to happen (maybe).
What for sure is going to happen is the entrance-staircase-into the second floor hallway. Kind of tackling 3 smaller spaces into 1.
Okay, lets do this!
Here is the space before
One Room Challenge: I have not done much to it since we moved in. Basically,  hung a gallery wall of family photos 1,001 different ways so there is a bunch of holes in the 100 year old plaster. Otherwise, everything has pretty much stayed the same.

Yup, that is a legit hole in the wall that I had to patch up because the electrician had no idea how to install an electrical outlet in the bathroom that is on the other side of the wall. That was 3 years ago!

So, the basically plan is
1. Remove carpeting
2. Paint Stairs and Banister
3. Replace light fixtures
4. Paint walls and ceiling
5. Replace Carpeting
6. Add new furnishings
Pretty simple right?
Okay, I will be back next Thursday with my week 2 inspiration and update. In the mean time don’t forget to check out all the other participants at Calling it Home
